Wrist

At the end of November 2009, I broke my wrist during a snowboard lesson.

Here are the pictures of the repairs.

The day I broke it, they did surgery at the hospital in Summit County. They lined up the parts, and installed a fixer. This picture is at my doctor's, in Denver a week later, when it was unwrapped for them to examine.

This x-ray was taken during the surgery and shows the pins in my hand holding the fixer, and the break at the end of the radius.

This is an x-ray, in Denver, with the fixer in place. The job of the fixer is to hold the hand and wrist still, and in the right place, so the broken parts line up to heal. In my case, it was temporary until the swelling went down enough to do another surgery.

This is the side view after the second surgery. The plate and 11 screws are titanium. The plate is on the inside, the palm side, of my wrist. The plate secured the parts of the bone. Being secured, the parts were very close together and healed with only a small join.

And, this is a top view.
